Language service providers

Lexikon’s main strength lies in the use of advanced computer-assisted translation software (CAT tools).
It is important to stress that computer-assisted translation tools are not the same as automatic translation systems. The latter translate texts without involving any form of human intervention, producing results that fall far short of our quality standards.

CAT tools are particularly useful for translating documents (manuals, catalogues, brochures, software) that contain repetitive text segments or describe new versions or new models of existing products, for which reference material has already been drawn up (and translated).

Manufacturers launching new products on the market, for instance, tend to use at least some of the reference material written for previous models rather than write it all over again.
Computer-assisted translation tools offer an interactive environment for creating properly organised translation memories and terminology glossaries of all previously translated text approved by the customer. These translations by language specialists and translators are then available for future use. While all material must, of course, be translated by professional translators, CAT tools are useful for storing and re-using material that is created each time the content is reviewed and updated.
When used with subsequent translations these tools guarantee maximum consistency of style and terminology. They also offer clear advantages in terms of time and cost-efficiency, by gradually reducing the number of words that actually need translating.
Our CAT tools can handle documents in the most widely used Microsoft Office formats, as well as in html, xml, and those created using the main desktop publishing software (Ventura, QuarkXpress, FrameMaker and Interleaf).
